Macular Degeneration Rochester Hills MI…
Welcome to 2020 Vision, the office of Dr. Dolan, located at 3110 Walton Blvd in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Our mission is to provide our patients with exceptional eye care and personalized attention to help them achieve and maintain healthy vision. In this blog post, we will discuss macular degeneration and the different approaches we offer at our office to help our patients manage this condition.
Macular degeneration is a common eye disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It is a progressive condition that damages the macula, the part of the retina responsible for central vision, and can lead to a loss of sharp, detailed vision. There are two types of macular degeneration: dry and wet.
Dry macular degeneration is the most common form and occurs when the cells in the macula break down and thin out over time. This type of macular degeneration progresses slowly and often leads to a gradual loss of central vision.
Wet macular degeneration is less common but more severe. It occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow underneath the retina and leak fluid or blood, causing damage to the macula. This type of macular degeneration can progress rapidly and cause a sudden loss of central vision.
At 2020 Vision, we offer different approaches to help our patients manage macular degeneration, including:
- Lifestyle changes: We recommend our patients with macular degeneration to adopt healthy habits such as eating a healthy diet rich in antioxidants, exercising regularly, quitting smoking, and wearing sunglasses to protect the eyes from harmful UV radiation.
- Vitamins and supplements: Certain vitamins and supplements such as vitamin C, E, and zinc have been shown to slow the progression of macular degeneration in some patients. We can provide our patients with the appropriate recommendations for vitamins and supplements based on their individual needs.
- Injections: For patients with wet macular degeneration, we offer injections of medications such as anti-VEGF to stop the growth of abnormal blood vessels and reduce the risk of vision loss.
- Low vision aids: For patients with advanced macular degeneration and significant vision loss, we can provide low vision aids such as magnifying glasses, telescopes, and electronic devices to help them perform daily tasks and maintain their independence.
At 2020 Vision, we understand that managing macular degeneration can be a challenging and emotional experience. That is why we provide our patients with comprehensive care, including regular eye exams, customized treatment plans, and ongoing support to help them maintain healthy vision and improve their quality of life.
