When should kids have an eye exam?
A first exam around age one, again before kindergarten, then every year during school. A school screening is not an eye exam: it can miss focusing problems, eye teaming issues and astigmatism.
Signs parents miss
- Sitting close to the TV or holding books very close
- Squinting, head tilting or covering one eye
- Headaches after school
- Losing their place while reading
- Avoiding homework or close work
